Nevaeh, the oldest girl, has been asking me for a while to take her to get rolled ice cream.
After ice skating lessons last night we finally went.
The ice cream was very creamy and, to be honest, not to my liking.
I guess I am a bit stuck up after my first rolled ice cream experience last year at Chills 360. It could be that the ice cream didn’t have as much extras in it either.
I don’t know.
I just know that it wasn’t for me.
The girls enjoyed it though and I am happy to be able to give them the experience.
Although this summer I will take them to Deep Ellum so they can have all the fun of their names being written in the ice cream and all the goodies placed on top.
For the time being, here’s an overview of what rolled ice cream is.
The first thing they do is pour the ice cream base onto that super cold pan and move it around a bit with the metal spatualas. By the point in which I took this photo, they had been moving it around for a few seconds and you can see it was already getting chunky.
Once it reaches a consistency they are happy with, they roll it flat. Here’s where the people at 360 write your name or whatever in the ice cream. That is fun to watch!
Next they take their spatulas and roll the ice cream up, hence the name rolled ice cream!
Afterwards they pick it up with tongs and add it to a bowl, this store drizzles it with syrup if you want and will add whipped cream. Since the girls opted for an Oreo ice cream, they got one on top as well.
Yes, we love Oreos in this house.
As far as the rest of Orchid City Cafe, we will be coming back. They sell boba tea as well as burgers with fries that look drool worthy.
Count me in!
