Back around Christmas I was talking to the teacher who taught at Rio before me. She informed me that there was a big event that happened at the school each year which involved veterans called Project Heroes (formerly Ride to Recovery).

As with many events that happen throughout the year we spent a lot of time planning for an event that was about an hour or so. Yet, it was very worth it!
The preparation was simple enough too, we cut up fruit for them and provided both water and Gatorade.
Rio is known for by the veterans is our chocolate covered strawberries. Joshua ISD provided half of them this year as well, which both we and the veterans appreciated.
While in line, a service dog noticed some chocolate that had broken off of the stawberries. Before she could get it her owner gently pulled her back. I picked it up and decided right then and there that next year I want to make cookies for the service dogs.
