I’m working on Will Write for Food. One of my main focuses is being descriptive with my writing.
The writing excersize they are giving me is to write a long paragraph about eating a favorite meal using all the senses. I also have to have a simile and a metaphor in the paragraph.
I decided to write about the first time I had pizza soup… Here goes, let me know what you think.
*Editor’s note: The picture and recipe right now are not mine. Naturally, if I am going to write a blog post- I am going to create the recipe. Plan for an update by later next week.
That means I get to make one of my favorite meals. Whoo!
It’s mid-February in Salem, Illinois. The air is crisp, yet there is a feeling that spring is soon around the corner. For the first time in as long as I could remember I didn’t ask my mom if we could go to Pizza Man after church today. After all, today she made pizza soup. As cold as the weather is outside the soup is warm sitting in my bowl. Chunks of pepperonis and sausage sit underneath a pile of mozzarella cheese. While my brother prays I breath in deep, the smell of warmed tomatoes combined with the meat envigorate my senses. I open my eyes as he says “Amen”, scooping the soup onto my spoon and into my mouth. The taste of the oregano and garlic were a burst of flavors, similar to a well balanced pizza. Only thing missing was the bread. I looked down at the garlic toast my mother had made to compliment the dish, took a bite, and gave her a thumbs up. My brother looked over at me, nodded his head, and thumbed up in agreement. With a content simle, my mother dug in.
What did you think?
