This will be our third summer in Dallas and I was finally ready to garden. The first year was just too much and last year, who knows, but this year we were ready. I bought strawberries first and am excited to stay that they are still producing at this point. Strawberries are some of my favorite fruits but I would look at someone like they had four heads if they asked me to eat one out of season. It’s just not right…
We also have several varieties of peppers, including a hybrid jalapeño that doesn’t have the spice. They are blooming really well. The one pictured below is actually about an inch long now. I made the mistake of not labeling all of the peppers so it will be fun to see which ones are which. (Side note: Won’t make that mistake next year). The one we did keep labeled is a coolapeno. This one is a hybrid. Nevaeh is excited about that one because she thinks hybrids are cool.I am as well but only because I do not like a lot of spice. We also have cilantro, tomatoes (lots and lots of tomatoes… be expecting some good recipes soon) and mint.
We went to my mom’s about a month ago and while we were gone the hubs made an A-frame irrigation system for the front yard.
There is talk of moving these plants to the back yard and either making this a raised bed with in ground plants, such as potatoes, carrots and onions or flowers that attract our pollinator friends.
As the summer goes on, I will keep you up to date on the progress of our plants.
