Kemah Beach was fun but neither B or I was impressed with the boardwalk. Again, I blame it on Ocean City! So we decided to head on over to Galveston Island, Texas.
The difference in the atmosphere was astounding! Crossing over that bridge really gave us the feel of being somewhere coastal, where people rode their bikes everywhere and there was always something fun to do.
As a matter of fact, once we parked we almost immediately found something fun to do. We went over to a shop and picked up a half hour double bike rental.
We rode quite a ways on the bicycle. My favorite was when we got out a little bit further from the pier and got a picture. Their pier is very beautiful. It is owned by Laundry’s Restaurant. They have picked it back up from Hurricane Ike in 2008 and rebuilt the Pleasure Pier where it had originally stood from 1943 to 1961. The time inbetween it was an over the water hotel. So Laundry’s brought back a piece of history!
One of their rules was passengers are not allowed go out on the sand, we found a driving area that took us out to the water. The waves were so much bigger than the ones in Ocean City.
