I don’t know if I ever told you but I am a kitchen gadget junky. I dream of a kitchen filled with a kitchenaid mixer that has every attachment, a Sous Vide Machine, a Blendtec blender with both the Wildside and Fourside Jars, and basically everything you see in the Williams-Sonoma catalog.
In early 2011 we bought the #1 most used kitchen “gadget” in my kitchen- the Kitchenaid (I have yet to get every attachment- some are not necessary, some I will buy with time). After that purchase I had two big goals- a Vitamix and an iSi whipper.
I bought a Vitamix in late 2013 and was vastly unimpressed. Yes, it did what I needed it to but was bulky and not as user friendly as the Blendtec is. The good news is I sold it for the same price I bought it for. The people even drove two and a half hours to my house to pick it up. The Blendtec and the Vitamix are very similar in capabilities, I just like the sleekness of the Blendtec, the ability to walk away from the machine, and the fact that it is not quite as bulky. I guess that’s another article entirely though.
Back to iSi whipper mode- what is an iSi whipper? It’s the whip cream canister you see at Starbucks. It does the same thing as a redi-whip container you would buy from Walmart BUT it uses the whipping cream and any other ingredients. Want pumpkin spice whip cream? Mix whipping cream, pumpkin, sugar, and pumpkin spices in a pot, let warm until sugar dissolves, let cool, add to cream whipper, seal lid, add N2O, and enjoy!
I recently purchased an off brand of the iSi whipper. The name brand whippers cost anywhere from sixty to one hundred dollars and I just was not willing to shell that out when I saw a similar make with just as high of rating on Amazon for $25. I also purchased $40 worth of N2O. Naturally, I have made a TON of whipped cream for my coffee but I wanted to venture out of the box so I found this awesome mousse recipe created by Alton Brown.
Next up on our list of things to try with the whipper? Yogurt Mousse like the whipped ones at the store.
