When we were figuring out our route from Red Oak (Dallas), Texas to Aurora (Denver), Colorado we switched back and forth several times because we were unsure of how our party was coming. During this time I looked at fun places for us to stop on both routes. One of the first places that popped up in Amarillo was the Big Texan Steak Ranch, home of the 72 oz. steak. Can you eat it in under an hour? Then it’s free! (They don’t mention the shrimp or potatoes that come with, by the way… Haha). It was about five and a half hours into our drive so this made sense as a place to finally get out and shake our legs a little. It was quite the place, definitely fitting the bill for a place that calls Texas home!
There was a twenty minute wait when we got there so we went window shopping, finding some cute southern shirts and other “Southern” style products- including these hats. Aren’t we cute?
It did not take long before we were able to sit down. We got a great view of the restaurant! They had musicians that were supposed to be funny. They stayed downstairs while we were at the restaurant so we didn’t get to witness that but I could tell they looked like fun.
The waiters and waitresses were decked out in cowboy/girl style gear and even the girls meals were given to them in a cowgirl hat. Our steak was good and that’s saying a lot because I don’t like steak. It was good enough that I didn’t need their steak sauce (which is made in house). Nevaeh ate her ribs down to the bone and Bre liked her mashed potatoes and chicken strips. Hubs and I tend to share meals so we split the steak and had potatoes and okra. There was green beans as the daily vegetable but we didn’t see it on the menu or we would have gotten that. A big plus for them was that their sweet tea was good. It takes a lot for me to say that!
After eating we were full but not quite ready to leave. We had to check out the snake that was on the premises and collect our “been there” badges (aka- postcard for the hubs and button for me). On our way out we found so many of the states we were looking for since it is a big attraction. We even managed to get Alaska and Hawaii!
Before I finish this post I have to add that this restaurant is a Route 66 Roadside Attraction. This is important to know because pretty soon we will be adding more attractions along this road. Cannot wait to show you more!
